What is Project X ?

Our team was contracted to provide a specialized complete solution to meet the demanding processing & storage needs of one of our clients.  Our project was named for our utilization of the Apple Xserve G5 and related Apple “X” hardware and software (Apple Xserve, Apple Xserve RAID, Apple Xsan), Project X was a complete success for our team and for our company.  To clear our coffers and books, we now offer this complete low-cost Apple Xserve “High Performance Computing Clusters” (HPCC) solution, which was the Project X solution.

Project X was the name used to describe a project for our customer, but is now an eBay auction for the bundle of all the equipment used in that project; providing a complete solution of both hardware and software, utilizing the Apple Xserve G5 dual 2.3ghz platform, Apple OSX 10.4 operating system, Apple Xsan 1.2 fibre channel file system, QLogic fibre channel switch, and Apple Xserve RAID shared storage, to build what is known as a High Performance Computing Cluster (HPCC).

Is this a good deal?  Is everything in good condition?

YES! All “Project X” Apple equipment (hardware/software/licenses/support) was:
 
(1) purchased new directly from Apple in the second quarter of 2005 or more recent, for just under one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000.00 USD);

(2) physically protected and operated in a Liebert NEMA-12 sealed and climate controlled rack;

(3) electronically protected by a few APC SMARTUPS RM1000 BLK-U.

All equipment is working perfectly, and other than a few minor scratches from the rack installation, everything is still in like-new condition.  (Note: While the Liebert rack and APC SmartUPS’s are not part of this auction, their purchase is negotiable.)

Why a complete bundle?

Trying to determine which individual pieces and components that are required to obtain a complete turn-key solution, which is approved and supported by Apple, can be challenging. In addition, if special-ordered as new, it can be inconvenient to wait the time required for custom-configured manufactures (such as Dell, Apple, etc), to assemble, configure, test, and ship, this type of equipment.  We offer a working, complete, ready-to-ship, tried and tested, turn-key solution – all ready for you to deploy right NOW, at a huge bundle savings.
